Chelsea and Leeds United meet at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, kick-off 20:00, with a place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup at stake. Both clubs have made unbeaten starts at home this season, although their early Premier League performances show a clear difference in attacking output.

Chelsea opened their league campaign with a 3-2 win at Fulham before beating Brighton 4-3 at Stamford Bridge. Their winning start ended with a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal, where they created only 0.47 xG and allowed 2.26 xGA.

Xabi Alonso’s side have scored eight goals across those three matches. They have generated 5.75 xG, averaging 1.92 per game, while their 48 shots include 33 attempts from inside the penalty area.

Chelsea’s defensive numbers are less convincing. They have conceded in every league match, allowing seven goals from 5.03 xGA. Opponents have recorded 21 shots on target, an average of seven per game.

Their only home league appearance developed into a 4-3 win over Brighton. Chelsea generated 3.36 xG, created six big chances and registered 15 shots inside the box, but Brighton still produced 1.26 xG and scored three times.

The Blues made more convincing progress in the EFL Cup, beating Luton Town 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring on his debut before Hakeem Odoffin diverted Estevao’s effort into his own net.

The margin could have been wider. Chelsea produced 2.67 xG from 26 attempts, created six big chances and hit the woodwork three times. Luton goalkeeper Josh Keeley made six saves as the League One side struggled to contain sustained pressure.
