Medical School Is Becoming Pointless” — Elon Musk Predicts AI Surgeons Could Replace Humans by 2030

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has sparked fresh debate online after predicting that artificial intelligence could replace human surgeons within the next decade, suggesting that traditional medical training may become less relevant in the future.

Musk made the statement while discussing rapid advancements in AI and robotics, arguing that machines could soon outperform humans in precision-based tasks such as surgery. According to him, AI-driven systems may eventually conduct complex medical procedures with greater accuracy and fewer errors than human doctors.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s comments quickly drew widespread reactions, especially from medical professionals and students. While some acknowledged that AI is already playing a growing role in diagnostics and assisted surgery, many experts pushed back against the idea of fully replacing human surgeons, stressing the importance of human judgment, ethics, and patient care.

Health analysts note that although AI is transforming healthcare, current technology is still largely used to support doctors rather than replace them. Regulatory approval, ethical concerns, and patient trust are also seen as major hurdles to fully autonomous AI surgeons.
