A fresh wave of political tension erupted on Tuesday after former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, sharply criticized ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing him as “irresponsible,” barely hours after declaring he had forgiven the former leader.
Fayose, who has had a long and turbulent history with Obasanjo, had earlier in the day announced that he was letting go of past grievances—a gesture many interpreted as a step toward reconciliation.
However, in a surprising twist, the outspoken politician launched a scathing attack shortly afterward, insisting that forgiveness does not erase what he called Obasanjo’s “questionable leadership style and past misconduct.”
According to Fayose, Obasanjo’s actions during his time in office left deep political scars and contributed to several crises within Nigeria’s democratic space.
Political observers say the sudden reversal reflects the long-standing bitterness between both men, a feud that dates back to their clashes during Fayose’s time as governor and the internal conflicts that rocked the PDP.
