IPOB Calls Plot Against Nnamdi Kanu “Dangerous” and Announces Lawsuits Targeting Reno Omokri and Others

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that there is a coordinated plot to eliminate its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, following comments made by…

The Indigenous People of Biafra said on Monday that a coordinated scheme to kill its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has emerged after entrepreneur Chigozie Nnabugwu made remarks on News Central Television’s Breakfast Xtra programme, and the group warned it will pursue legal action over what it calls defamatory statements.

According to IPOB, Nnabugwu urged the federal government to execute Kanu, claiming such a step would bring peace to the South‑East; the organization described the suggestion as “dangerous” and part of a broader campaign against its leader and the Biafra cause.

IPOB rejected accusations that it is responsible for recent insecurity in the region, arguing that violence only intensified after Kanu’s arrest and extradition to Nigeria in June 2021, and it blamed the APC government and allied militias for creating chaos to justify what it called “sham trials.”

The group said it will sue News Central Television, Nnabugwu, Reno Omokri, former presidential aide Bashir Ahmed, Lolo Nneka Chimezie and other unnamed individuals for defamation, with spokesperson Emma Powerful stating the case will be taken to open court; Kanu is currently serving a life sentence after a November 2025 terrorism conviction and has remained in DSS custody since his return from Kenya in June 2021.
