A lady has appealed to the Imo State Government, public-spirited individuals and other authorities for urgent assistance after erosion reportedly threatened to destroy her father’s house.
The woman made the appeal in a viral video while showing the extent of the erosion around the family property.
‘This is my dad’s sweat’
According to her, the house represents years of financial sacrifices by her father and the entire family, who contributed whatever they could afford towards its construction.
“I’m calling on the government of Imo State. I’m calling on everybody, anyone that can help at this point in time because I don’t know what to do.
“This is my dad’s sweat, not just my dad’s sweat, my entire family’s sweat that is going down the drain like this that is caused by this natural disaster.”
She identified the problem as river erosion and explained that the family had spent years building the house because of financial difficulties.
“They called it river erosion. This is a house we’ve been building for so long. It was not supposed to take this long but because of a lot of problems, we were just putting two and two together, ₦100,000, ₦50,000, ₦20,000 anyhow.
“Then after building this house, erosion wants to take it away from us.”
Engineers estimate ₦10.5 million to address erosion
The woman said the family had contacted an engineer, who assessed the situation and informed them that the problem could be addressed.
However, she said the proposed intervention would require a significant amount of money.
“We’ve called the engineer and they’ve made estimates of how much it’s going to take because they said this is actually possible to fix this problem but it will cost a lot of money.
“The amount is ₦10.5 million to change the direction of the river.”
‘How is this natural disaster going to render us homeless?’
Appealing for assistance, the woman said her father had become exhausted by the situation and feared that the family could lose its home if urgent action was not taken.
She also called on social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) and other individuals who could assist the family.
“At this point, I’m calling on everybody. I’m calling on VDM too, anybody that can help, please.
“At this point, my dad is even exhausted. He just said anything that wants to happen, let it happen.
“But how is this natural disaster going to render us homeless? If this house is taken away from us, we don’t have anywhere to stay. We don’t have anywhere to stay.”
The woman concluded by appealing to the Imo State Government and other authorities to intervene before the erosion causes further damage to the property.
“So please, I’m calling on all authorities, the Imo State Government, please come and help us.”
