Governor Monday Okpebholo has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the country, alleging that some individuals are actively involved in recruiting kidnappers and aiding criminal activities.
Speaking during a public engagement, the governor stated that insecurity cannot be blamed solely on external forces, insisting that certain members of local communities are collaborating with criminal elements for personal gain.
According to Okpebholo, the involvement of insiders in kidnapping operations has made the fight against crime more challenging, as criminals often rely on local information and support networks to carry out attacks.
The governor called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could help identify and apprehend those involved in criminal activities.
He also stressed the need for stronger community participation in security efforts, noting that lasting solutions require collective action from government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and citizens.
The remarks have sparked discussions among Nigerians, with many highlighting the importance of intelligence gathering and community-based approaches in addressing kidnapping and other security threats.
As concerns over insecurity continue to grow, stakeholders have renewed calls for tougher measures against individuals found supporting or facilitating criminal operations.
