Presidency Gives Fresh Update On Tinubu, Trump Meeting — Dismisses Sanction Rumours

The Nigerian Presidency has reacted to reports about President Bola Tinubu’s planned meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, clarifying the nature of their talks and dismissing alleged sanction discussions.

The Presidency has officially debunked circulating reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former United States President Donald Trump are set to discuss sanctions or political restrictions during their next meeting.

According to sources from the Presidential Villa, the reports making rounds on social media are “baseless and politically motivated.” The Presidency emphasized that the upcoming meeting, if finalized, would focus strictly on strengthening bilateral relations, trade partnerships, and investment opportunities between Nigeria and key U.S. stakeholders.

The statement added that no conversation involving sanctions or political pressure is on the agenda.

A senior aide to the President described the rumors as another attempt by mischief-makers to “distract the government from its ongoing reforms and economic recovery efforts.”

“President Tinubu’s engagements abroad are always centered on economic diplomacy, not political theatrics. There are no talks about sanctions whatsoever,” the aide noted.

This clarification comes after some online platforms reported that the two leaders might discuss Nigeria’s recent political climate and the West’s response to certain government decisions — claims now dismissed by the Nigerian government.

The Presidency further assured Nigerians that all international meetings involving President Tinubu are transparent, purposeful, and aimed at improving the nation’s global image.
