Davido says Aliko Dangote and Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged him to delete his X post

Davido has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Aliko Dangote contacted him and asked him to delete one of his posts on X.

Afrobeats star Davido told News Central Television that he was contacted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and businessman Aliko Dangote, who asked him to remove a tweet he posted during the recent Osun State governorship election. He made the claim after publicly criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the federal government over the conduct of the poll.

The singer, who openly supported his uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke, said large sums of money were brought into Osun State in an attempt to sway the election, but insisted his own camp did not spend anything on election day despite what he described as widespread vote‑buying across the state. He urged his uncle to serve as a model for other governors, noting that Adeleke won despite “all odds against us”.

Davido recounted that Akpabio called the “coalition centre” and asked him to delete his tweet, and that Dangote also phoned with the same request. He refused, stating he would not remove the post until INEC announced the results. He added that his father, Adedeji Adeleke, was praying and fasting seven times a day for his brother throughout the election period.

When INEC later declared Adeleke, running on the Accord Party ticket, the winner with 511,067 votes, the APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes. Davido also alleged that the APC spent about N110 billion on the election, far more than the N60 billion previously reported, and warned that such spending would threaten Nigeria’s democratic process.
