Nnamdi Kanu Finally Files Defence As Court Relocates Registry To Courtroom
IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has finally filed his defence as the Federal High Court in Abuja relocates its registry to the courtroom to speed up trial proceedings.

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has finally submitted his full defence before the Federal High Court in Abuja, signaling a major breakthrough in his prolonged trial.
Kanu, who has remained in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021, faces multiple charges including terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement against the Nigerian state.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, the court registry was temporarily relocated to the courtroom to speed up the filing process and ensure direct submission of legal documents before Justice Binta Nyako.
Kanu’s legal representatives, led by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, presented a detailed defence addressing all 15-count charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
Speaking after the hearing, Ejiofor told reporters that the move marked a significant step in ensuring Kanu’s right to a fair and speedy trial.
“We have officially filed his defence, and we are ready to meet the prosecution in court. This process is purely legal, not political,” he stated.
The relocation of the registry to the courtroom was seen as a rare but practical decision to prevent further delays in a case that has lingered for years.
Supporters of the IPOB leader who gathered around the court premises expressed renewed hope that this development could fast-track Kanu’s release.
Justice Nyako adjourned the case to a later date for continuation of hearing.
