Popular television host and lawyer, Nyma Akashat-Zibiri, has criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent comments suggesting possible U.S. action against Nigeria, saying his remarks were “reckless” and “disrespectful” to Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Speaking on TVC’s breakfast show, Your View, on Tuesday morning, Nyma faulted Trump for making public threats instead of using proper diplomatic channels to address any concerns he has with the Nigerian government.
“If Donald Trump truly had an issue with Nigeria’s leadership or human rights record, the decent thing would have been to call President Tinubu privately,” Nyma stated.
“No country has the right to invade or intimidate another sovereign nation under the guise of protection or intervention.”
She stressed that Nigeria, despite its challenges, remains an independent country with its own democratic structures, and should be treated with respect by foreign powers.
Nyma also cautioned Nigerians against celebrating foreign interference, noting that history has shown such interventions often come with ulterior motives.
“We shouldn’t clap when outsiders threaten our nation. Once they step in, they don’t leave easily. Our issues are for us to fix,” she added.
Her comments come amid rising tension following Trump’s warning that the United States “will do things Nigeria won’t be happy about,” which has since sparked widespread debate both within and outside the country.
The discussion on TVC has since gone viral, with many Nigerians on social media praising Nyma for speaking boldly in defense of national sovereignty.
