Julius Malema Calls For Single President, Unified Currency To Strengthen Africa’s Unity
South Africa’s Julius Malema calls for a single African president, unified currency, and one army to foster continental unity and reduce Western influence.

Leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has renewed calls for the unification of African nations under one government, one currency, and one military system, saying such unity is crucial for the continent’s independence and global respect.
Speaking at a pan-African conference held in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Malema urged African leaders to embrace true integration and move beyond colonial borders that continue to divide the continent. He stressed that only through unity can Africa command economic power and resist foreign exploitation.
“We need a single African president, a single currency, and one army that defends all of us. Until we speak with one voice, Africa will continue to be manipulated by Western powers,”
Malema declared.
He criticized current African governments for prioritizing political ego and foreign interests over the welfare of their people, insisting that a united Africa would have greater bargaining power in global affairs.
Malema further called on young Africans to rise and challenge systems that encourage division, corruption, and dependency. He emphasized that the dream of a United States of Africa—once championed by leaders like Kwame Nkrumah and Muammar Gaddafi—remains possible if citizens push for genuine leadership and accountability.
His remarks have since sparked conversations across the continent, with many social media users praising his courage and vision, while others questioned the feasibility of such a unification given Africa’s political diversity.
