Senator offers ₦50,000 a month for social‑media manager, applicant says he was dismissed for demanding more

A man from Abuja said he went to a job interview with a sitting senator for a social‑media manager role at the senator’s NGO, only to be offered a monthly salary of ₦50,000 after the senator learned he was a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

The applicant explained that he had initially expected a salary near ₦500,000, based on the senator’s apparent wealth, and during the interview he was asked about his salary expectations. He replied with ₦250,000, prompting the senator to laugh and comment that “Gen Zs… want to run before you crawl.” The senator then questioned why a corps member would ask for that amount and stated that the NGO does not employ corps members, offering ₦50,000 instead.

Rejecting the low offer, the man insisted that ₦200,000 was the minimum he would accept, to which the senator responded that nobody would pay such a sum in Abuja. He left the meeting determined to achieve success without relying on political connections, later claiming he secured better opportunities elsewhere and urging young people not to let influential figures undermine their aspirations.
