Businessman Farooq Oreagba, popularly known as Mr. Steeze, has opened up about his financial journey, revealing that he was a dollar millionaire at the age of 30 but was working as a labourer in England just five years later.
Speaking on Ebuka Obi-Uchendu’s MENtality show, co-hosted by Banky W, Oreagba used a hypothetical question about receiving $10 million in exchange for having only 24 hours to live to illustrate that life is ultimately more valuable than wealth.
According to him, after losing his banking job, he struggled to maintain his lifestyle and took on different jobs to survive.
Reflecting on the experience, he admitted that his priorities at the time were misplaced, stressing that many people focus too much on money while overlooking what truly matters in life.
Their conversation went …
Farooq Oreagba: “Ebuka I’m going to drop a few nuggets here. How much is money to you. Will a billionaire dollar satisfy you?”
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu: “I’m not looking for satisfaction”
Farooq Oreagba: “Okay now I’m going back to the first question about materialism and people chasing money but if I gave you 10 million dollars now, what would you say?”
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu: “What would I say? I’ll call you from Miami to thank you.”
Farooq Oreagba: “But what if I told you you can have it but not live more than 24 hours to spend it what would you do?”
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu: “I mean I could make 10 million dollars, so it’s not worth it.”
Farooq Oreagba: “Right. Then all of a sudden living now has more value. I was a dollar millionaire at 30, at 35 I was working as a labourer in England. I had my dream and all them I lost my job as a banker. To maintain that lifestyle I was hustling, doing all kinds of stuff… I had my priorities wrong. Sometimes we place priorities on….”
