The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission detained Abuja realtor Rebecca Omokamo Godwin‑Isaac on Wednesday after a Federal High Court in the capital ordered her arrest for failing to appear at a scheduled hearing in her ongoing criminal trial for alleged land fraud, forgery and money‑laundering.
Her lawyer, Christopher Oshomeghie, said she exited the Guzape residence where she claimed EFCC operatives had kept her confined for 23 days, while prosecutor Benedict Ubi countered that she had the apartment keys and voluntarily locked herself inside, describing the situation as self‑imposed house arrest and accusing her of breaching bail conditions by traveling outside the jurisdiction.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik directed the EFCC to take the defendant into custody and bring her before the court for the continuation of the case, rejected the counsel’s request for clarification on a prior status‑quo order, and noted that further applications—including a final forfeiture request and a joinder motion—would be addressed later, adjourning the civil suit to 15 October.
Rebecca, who was arraigned on 18 June 2025 together with her husband Isaac Yusuf Ishaku, Homadil Realty Limited, Idakwogi Richard John and Rychado Homes Limited, faces accusations of swindling more than ₦500 million from buyers between 2023 and 2024 by selling plots using forged documents such as fake Powers of Attorney, involving Plot 4022 in Guzape and several parcels in Katampe, with alleged proceeds funneled through corporate accounts.
Among the prosecution’s witnesses are 79‑year‑old widow Colleen Yesufu and Abu Gambo, who testified that he lost ₦62 million after purchasing two Katampe plots whose land titles later disappeared from the Abuja Geographic Information Systems records.
