Bella Shmurda has publicly refuted a circulating claim that he was swindled out of $4 million in a Lagos real‑estate deal, describing the allegation as false.
The rumor began after a video was posted on Tuesday by a social media user, showing the singer during an Instagram live session. The accompanying caption said Shmurda broke down after paying $4 million for a mansion, only to discover the seller was not the legitimate owner and had vanished, and that he was pleading for assistance. The clip spread rapidly, causing alarm among his fans.
A source close to the artist told reporters on Thursday that the footage is misleading, explaining it was originally recorded in 2023 during an Instagram live broadcast after the death of fellow musician Mohbad and has no link to any recent property transaction.
On Friday, the “Cash App” hitmaker used his Instagram story to deny the claim, labeling it as fake news, asserting he was not scammed, and urging the public to be cautious of unverified reports. He concluded his message with “Peace and Love $4 million, keh? This country no go sleep!” The piece also notes his birth name Akinyibi Ahmed, his 2019 debut with “Vision 2020”, the 2020 hit “Cash App” featuring Zlatan Ibile and Lincoln, a Next Rated nomination at the 14th Headies, and his albums “Hypertension” (2022) and “Sanity” (2025).
