US Embassy Suspends Visa Appointments in Abuja Over Security Concerns
US Embassy suspends visa appointments in Abuja over security concerns as travel warnings increase and staff departures begin.

The United States Embassy in Abuja has temporarily suspended visa appointments due to rising security concerns in Nigeria’s capital.
According to official updates, the decision comes amid worsening security conditions, prompting the U.S. government to take precautionary measures, including allowing non-essential embassy staff and their families to leave Abuja.
As part of the move, all routine visa services have been put on hold. However, the embassy stated that emergency services for U.S. citizens will still be available, although on a limited and appointment-only basis.
While specific details about the security threat were not disclosed, earlier reports suggest concerns around potential unrest and safety risks in the Federal Capital Territory. In previous notices, the embassy had warned of possible protests that could escalate into violence, leading to similar cancellations of visa appointments.
The embassy has not confirmed how long the suspension will last, advising visa applicants to monitor official channels for updates and rescheduling information.
