Wedding called off weeks before ceremony after bride’s family adds new traditional demands

A wedding slated for next month has been cancelled following a dispute between the families of the bride and groom over additional traditional marriage conditions.

The couple, together for several years and already arranging attire and other details, saw their plans unravel after a recent family meeting ended in disagreement.

Sources within the church say the bride’s relatives presented extra traditional requirements that the groom’s side argued had already been met under the initial agreement and that they could not afford to raise additional funds so close to the wedding date; the heated exchange led the groom’s family to decide they could not proceed.

Church members who had been looking forward to the event were taken aback by the cancellation, and neither family has released an official comment or indicated whether the wedding might be rescheduled.
