NDC vice‑presidential candidate Kwankwaso warns APC that governor count won’t guarantee 2027 win

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice‑presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Party, addressed a town hall meeting in Rivers State, cautioning the ruling All Progressives Congress against assuming its large number of governors ensures victory in the 2027 presidential election. He also criticised the current administration’s handling of insecurity across the country.

Kwankwaso argued that the APC’s confidence stems from controlling more than 30 state governorships, but he said this is a “very big mistake”. He highlighted poor performance by some northern politicians, noting they may struggle to campaign openly, and pointed to widespread public anger over rising insecurity. Quoting his remarks, he said, “The sitting President, Tinubu, lost the 2023 election. Now, because they think they have over 30 governors, they think they cannot lose the 2027 presidential election… People are very angry; insecurity is everywhere.”

His comments come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures positioning themselves to challenge the APC’s hold on power and sparking debate over whether the party’s current political strength will be enough to retain the presidency.
