Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke said his trips to his late brother’s burial site before the recent poll were meant to ask for prayers and steady his resolve, as the Independent National Electoral Commission announced his victory in the latest governorship election.
Speaking to Channels TV, Adeleke became emotional while describing the loss of his sibling, noting that he often goes to the grave to weep and draw psychological strength, sharing how much he misses his brother.
The governor’s political journey includes a 2018 bid under the PDP that was initially declared a win, later ruled inconclusive by INEC, and ultimately lost to APC candidate Gboyega Oyetola after a September rerun. He returned in July 2022, defeating incumbent Adegboyega Oyetola with 403,371 votes across 17 local government areas, a result later upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
On 16 August 2026, Adeleke secured a second term, this time on the Accord Party ticket, obtaining 511,067 votes and surpassing APC contender Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes.
