Federal Government Unveils New Investment Fund To Boost Nigerian Startups

The Tinubu administration has announced a fresh round of investment funding aimed at empowering Nigerian startups, creating jobs, and supporting innovation across key sectors.

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a new investment initiative targeted at boosting Nigerian startups and small businesses, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s digital economy and job creation drive.

The fresh funding program, which will operate through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, aims to support innovative entrepreneurs with grants, equity investments, and capacity development programs.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, noting that the government is committed to positioning Nigeria as Africa’s leading hub for technology and innovation.

“This investment fund is designed to nurture young entrepreneurs and innovators building solutions that can transform Nigeria’s economy. Our goal is to ensure that startups not only survive but thrive,” Tijani said.

He explained that the funding will prioritize sectors such as agritech, fintech, healthtech, and renewable energy, with special attention to women-led and youth-driven enterprises.

The minister further revealed that the initiative will be supported by partnerships between government institutions, private investors, and international development agencies.

Economic analysts have welcomed the move, describing it as a timely intervention to stimulate productivity amid rising youth unemployment and declining access to venture capital.

The new startup fund aligns with President Tinubu’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on driving digital inclusion, innovation, and entrepreneurship as key pillars for sustainable national growth.

Applications for the funding are expected to open in the coming weeks, with detailed guidelines to be released on the ministry’s official website.
