Liverpool will look to potentially climb into the Champions League places on Wednesday night as they welcome high-flying Sunderland to Anfield.

Liverpool made a flying start to the campaign, as Arne Slot’s men had won each of their opening five Premier League matches, and their opening two in the Champions League.

However, the reigning Premier League champions’ 1-4 loss at home to PSV in the Champions League last Wednesday was their ninth defeat across their last 12 matches in all competitions.

The Reds did, at least, secure just their second Premier League victory in their last eight matches on Sunday, as they won 0-2 away at struggling West Ham to move up to eighth in the table, just four points behind second-placed Manchester City.

Despite trailing 0-2 inside the opening quarter of an hour, Sunderland put a halt to their three-match winless run at the weekend, as they defeated Bournemouth 3-2, on an afternoon where my Bet of the Day cruised in.

Regis Le Bris’s men remarkably sit in sixth position in the Premier League table after that victory, a point ahead of their hosts.

The Black Cats have picked up just seven of those 22 points away from home (W2-D1-L3) – scoring just three times in those six road trips – although they did claim a dramatic 1-2 victory at Stamford Bridge against third-placed Chelsea at the end of October.

Liverpool dominated this fixture prior to Sunderland’s relegation from the Premier League in 2016/17, with The Reds unbeaten in each of their last 10 meetings with Sunderland (W6-D4-L0).

However, the Black Cats have drawn on two of their last three visits to Anfield.

Players to watch: Gakpo to grab another goal?

Much noise has been made about Liverpool’s misfiring forward line this season, but Cody Gakpo has been the most consistent, scoring five times and providing four assists in all competitions for the Reds.

The Dutch international set up the opener and scored the second in Liverpool’s win at West Ham on Sunday, and the 10/11 on offer at bet365 for him to Score or Assist on Wednesday night appears good value.
