Catholic Priest Blasts Governor Alia, Accuses Him of Abandoning Benue People in Their Hardship
A Catholic priest in Benue State has publicly criticised Governor Hyacinth Alia, accusing him of betraying the suffering masses and neglecting the challenges facing the state.

A Catholic priest in Benue State has stirred public debate after openly criticising Governor Hyacinth Alia, accusing him of turning his back on the people despite the worsening hardship and insecurity ravaging the state.
In a strongly worded sermon delivered during Sunday Mass, the priest lamented what he described as the governor’s failure to stand with the people at a time they are facing extreme economic pressure, displacement from attacks, and deteriorating living conditions.
He alleged that many of the governor’s recent decisions have “favoured political interests rather than the suffering masses,” insisting that the people of Benue feel abandoned and unheard.
The priest challenged the governor to “return to the path of empathy and leadership,” urging him to prioritise security, welfare, and transparency instead of what he called “political games and self-preservation.”
His remarks have since gone viral across social media platforms, eliciting mixed reactions. While some residents applauded the priest for speaking out, others argued that the criticism was too harsh and politically motivated.
Governor Alia’s camp has not issued an official response as of press time.
