EFCC Storms Anambra Polling Units as Vote-Buying Scandal Sparks Chaos During Election
EFCC operatives invaded several polling units across Anambra State as reports of large-scale vote-buying caused tension and disrupted the ongoing election process.

EFCC Raids Polling Units in Anambra Over Vote-Buying Allegations
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday stormed several polling units in Anambra State following multiple reports of vote-buying and voter inducement that marred the governorship and legislative elections.
According to eyewitnesses, EFCC officials arrived in tactical vehicles at various polling centres in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and Ihiala, arresting individuals allegedly caught distributing cash and gift items to influence voters.
The anti-graft agency’s swift operation triggered tension among party agents and security officials, momentarily halting voting activities in some locations.
Voters React as EFCC Seizes Cash and Phones
One voter at Amawbia Ward told 03Naija News that EFCC officials entered the premises around 11:30 a.m. and confiscated envelopes believed to contain money meant for bribing voters.
“They came in suddenly, shouting at people to drop what they had. Some party men ran off. They collected cash and even some phones,” the voter recounted.

Reports also suggest that EFCC operatives detained several individuals for questioning as they trailed cash transactions linked to political party operatives.
INEC Confirms Disruptions, Promises Smooth Process
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed temporary disruptions in parts of the state but assured the public that measures were being taken to restore order and ensure a credible process.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra, Dr. Queen Nwafor, said the commission is working closely with law enforcement to maintain peace and protect the integrity of the election.
“While some incidents of vote-buying were reported, we are cooperating with security agencies, including the EFCC, to handle the matter decisively,” she said.

EFCC Issues Warning to Political Parties
Meanwhile, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the commission deployed special teams across several states to monitor financial malpractices during the elections.
“Our mandate is clear — no one will be allowed to buy the conscience of the people. We have operatives on the ground, and arrests have been made,” Oyewale said.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring accountability and warned political parties against using illicit funds to influence voters.
Tension as Voting Resumes Amid Heavy Security
As of press time, voting resumed in many parts of the state under heavy security presence, though reports of intimidation and minor clashes continue to emerge.
Security analysts say the EFCC’s proactive involvement marks a turning point in Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight during elections, but they warn that follow-up prosecution remains key to sustaining credibility.
