Tragedy in Ondo: Eight Confirmed Dead in Fatal Road Accident

Eight people have been confirmed dead in a fatal road accident along the Akure–Owo highway in Ondo State. FRSC blames overspeeding and reckless driving for the crash.
Tragedy struck in Ondo State on Tuesday after a fatal road accident claimed the lives of eight people, leaving several others injured.
The ghastly crash occurred along the Akure Akungba Expressway, one of the state’s busiest routes. Eyewitnesses said the accident involved a commercial bus and a truck that collided head-on due to excessive speeding and a failed attempt to overtake.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo confirmed the incident, stating that eight bodies were recovered from the scene, while the injured victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for treatment.
An FRSC spokesperson added that the accident was caused by reckless driving and violation of traffic rules, warning motorists to always adhere to speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking, especially on highways.
“We urge all road users to drive responsibly and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey,” the FRSC official said.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has expressed sadness over the tragic loss of lives and called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent future occurrences.
The accident has once again raised concerns about the increasing number of fatal crashes across Nigerian highways, often linked to overspeeding, bad roads, and driver negligence.
