How the Scam Was Busted

Police spokesperson DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday.

According to Abiodun, Peter had asked Victor a year ago to help him connect with a female friend. However, instead of making the introduction, Victor allegedly pretended to be the lady himself, using fake photos to chat and demand money from Peter.

“During the investigation, a search was conducted in Victor’s house, and a wig and female clothes were recovered,” the police spokesman stated.

His Confession and Motive

When interrogated, Victor reportedly confessed to running a dating scam, admitting he had also been sharing fake female photos on Facebook and TikTok to deceive multiple victims.

He further claimed that part of his motive was to gain followers and boost his social media monetisation, not just to defraud people.

“I wanted to grow my page and get views. I didn’t think it would get this serious,” Victor allegedly said during questioning.
