INEC to Test Upgraded BVAS in Anambra Ahead of Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to conduct a statewide mock accreditation exercise in Anambra to assess the performance of its upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the upcoming November governorship election.
In a statement released on Saturday by Victoria Eta-Messi, Director of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC confirmed that the mock exercise will be held on Saturday, October 25, across selected polling units within the state’s three senatorial districts.
According to the commission, the purpose of the exercise is to evaluate the BVAS device’s speed, reliability, and capacity for real-time result uploads via the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
“The mock accreditation will enable the commission to test the upgraded BVAS, assess its response time, and ensure seamless uploading of results on the IReV portal ahead of the main election,” the statement explained.
Polling units selected for the exercise are located in Awka South, Idemili North, Oyi, Anambra East, Aguata, and Orumba North local government areas.
INEC urged registered voters in the affected areas to actively participate in the mock exercise, stressing that their involvement is vital to refining the commission’s election technology and operations before the governorship poll.
PVC Distribution Schedule Announced
In a related development, INEC also announced that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for newly registered voters in Anambra will begin on Wednesday, October 22, and end on Sunday, October 26.
Voters who participated in the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise are expected to collect their PVCs from the same registration centres where they were originally enrolled.
INEC reminded the public that PVC collection is strictly personal, warning that no one will be allowed to collect cards on behalf of another voter.
“All registered voters are strongly advised to collect their PVCs within the specified period to ensure their eligibility to participate in the upcoming election,” the statement said.
Commitment to Transparency and Credibility
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible election process in Anambra, emphasizing that the mock accreditation exercise and PVC distribution are part of ongoing measures to strengthen voter confidence and operational efficiency.
“The Commission remains dedicated to ensuring that every stage of the election process is credible, transparent, and technologically sound,” the statement concluded.
