NDLEA Destroys 8,166kg of Seized Illicit Drugs in Yobe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has carried out the public destruction of 8,166.95 kilograms of seized illicit substances in Yobe State, marking a historic first for the region. The event, held on Tuesday, was described as a symbolic milestone in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
The destroyed substances included 6,791.25kg of Cannabis Sativa, 1,375.65kg of psychotropic substances, 0.04kg of cocaine, and 0.012kg of heroin. The Federal High Court in Damaturu approved the destruction, with all substances verified by the NDLEA Directorate of Forensics beforehand.
NDLEA Chairman Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), represented by Ahmed Ningi, highlighted the agency’s commitment to ensuring these substances never return to circulation, calling the exercise a victory over criminal enterprises. He praised the Yobe Command for their efforts, which have led to 2,345 arrests, 349 convictions, and the rehabilitation of 11 individuals.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Gubana, reaffirmed the state’s dedication to supporting NDLEA’s efforts, emphasizing youth empowerment and education as key strategies to combat drug abuse
