Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has emerged victorious in a ₦20 million defamation lawsuit against a blogger who spread false rumors about her alleged romantic involvement with Nigerian politician Dino Melaye.
The case, which was ruled in Adunni’s favor by a Lagos High Court, centered on claims made by the blogger that the actress was secretly dating Melaye and receiving lavish gifts from him. Adunni, who vehemently denied the allegations, sued for defamation, citing damage to her reputation and emotional distress caused by the false reports.
Delivering the judgment, the presiding judge condemned the blogger’s actions as reckless and malicious, ordering them to pay ₦20 million in damages to the actress. In addition, the court issued a public apology mandate, requiring the blogger to retract the false claims across all platforms.
Reacting to the victory, Adunni expressed gratitude to her legal team and fans for their unwavering support. She said, _“This is not just a win for me but for everyone who has been unfairly targeted by baseless rumors. Let this serve as a lesson that falsehood has consequences.”_
The ruling has sparked discussions about accountability in the digital space, with many applauding Adunni’s bold stance against cyberbullying and defamation.
