NUPENG Calls Off Nationwide Strike
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has officially suspended its planned nationwide strike, bringing relief to Nigerians who feared disruptions in fuel supply and other services.
The union announced the decision following a meeting with government representatives, where key demands concerning workers’ welfare, unpaid salaries, and safety standards were reportedly addressed. NUPENG expressed optimism that the agreements reached would be honored, warning that they would resume action if commitments were not kept.
The suspension comes as a major win for commuters and businesses, many of whom had braced for the economic fallout of the strike. Social media has been abuzz with reactions, with many applauding the union for prioritizing dialogue over industrial action.
